Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

SO, WHAT IS IT?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a therapy that combines the use of Psychotherapy (talking therapy) NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming ) techniques, together with Hypnosis. ‘Hypnosis’ or ‘Trance’ is a very natural relaxing state designed to reduce anxiety and calm the mind, as well as using guided relaxation.  Your body becomes deeply relaxed whereas your mind is active, allowing the mind to relax and focus on thoughts and suggestions that can be useful to change. This means that people are not treated with hypnosis but treated in hypnosis.

This modern psychotherapeutic approach uses practical, structured and well-researched strategies, ‘Brain Based Explanations’, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques, combined with Solution Focused Orientated Questions, to help people look at the positive aspects of their lives, helping them work towards making significant, positive changes, allowing them to focus on positive solutions and goals and to consider their preferred future. This opens the doors to countless possibilities for healing and encourages a shift in perspective, in a relatively short period of time.

The therapist will ask questions to get the client to think about their preferred future and what they want to achieve (the solution) rather than whatever prompted them to seek help (the problem), questions like ‘What small thing would you do to feel better?, ‘What difference would that make? It is a collaborative process enabling the client to think about a positive path and future and therefore is a very positive therapy focusing on moving forward.

Hypnosis itself reduces anxiety. This is done simply through relaxation and visualisation. As a result, helping people to change unwanted beliefs and behaviours, changing their way of thinking and bringing relief to existing conditions, such as confidence and low self-esteem, phobias or experiencing weight issues. It can help people cope better with pain conditions, along with painful memories and traumatic experiences, addressing aspects and symptoms of stress, low mood and generally helping people to feel more confident about themselves and their future.

At its heart, solution focused hypnotherapy, focuses on the Present and Future, it does not involve analysing unpleasant events or painful memories from the past, relieving many clients of the anxiety that they may need to talk about such memories, but equally important, if you are comfortable in sharing your memories these are listened to and acknowledged.
